New Friend Friday

One of my favorite blogs is The Girl Creative and she started this great idea of New Friend Friday.  Since I'm just starting out, I don't have very many followers, but I'd love to know you.   Leave me a comment and tell me something interesting about yourself!

A little about me:

I have 3 girls, from oldest to youngest, there is only 22 months.  They are 11, 9, 9, no twins!  And then I have a beautiful baby boy that is 15 months, whom was born breach without letting his mother get any medicine (not by choice).  I love to craft, can't find time.  Because I'm so left brained, I spend alot of time organizing my craft room and projects, but its my goal this year to start finishing some of those projects.

Ballerina TUTU Hairbow Holder

 

About a week ago, I was at my best friends house and she was showing me all the cute hairbows she has made for her daughter.  They were hung on a string tied around a hanger.  I decided to make her one of the handy tutu hairbow holders.  

I started with two pieces of a cardboard box and cut them in the shape of a top.  

I glued the two pieces together with hot glue.

I planned on using batting in between the cardboard and fabric.  I only have about 5 HUGE rolls of batting, but they are all stored at my mom's house.  She happens to be out of town, and I didn't want to ask my poor old dad to go through the storage looking!  So, I had some warm & natural.  Normally, i wouldn't use it on a craft project, but I have a piece that had a run in with the washer.

There is a hole right in the middle of the warm & natural, so I cut some pieces off the side.

I cut a piece of fabric about 3 inches bigger on each side of the cardboard and started gluing it around.  On the round edges, cut pieces to release the tension. 

 

 

So, you know those super talented people that can make beautiful projects that even look great from the back?  I'm not one of them.  I cut a piece of fabric 1/4" smaller than bodice and glued it on to cover this mess.

 

So, somehow, in the midst of my creativity (pulling my hair out trying to figure out what I was doing) I forgot to take a bunch of in between pictures.   Basically I glued ribbon on the bodice.  I used two yards of tulle.  One yard white underneath and one yard purple on top.  I just gathered it by hand and glued it on.  I glued ribbon down and flowers on top.

Her UBER-talented mother is one of my best friends.  I'm trying to talk her into joining this blog as VP of Creativity.

Missy made this cute Tinkerbell costume for her birthday party.  She made matching outfits for all the little girls that came.

Fairy wings in Twilight colors for the big sister.

Anyway, really easy, really cheap project.  Great project for kids too, be careful of the hot glue, even got myself a few times!

Carrots & Eggs ~ My first Tutorial

I'm a little slow moving this year, I just got my Easter Decorations out this weekend. I made these super cute bunnys last year. They were really easy, they have a 2x4 body and their face is made with a tea-dyed sock. I put thin wire in their ears to make them stand up. When I put them on my table, I decided something was missing. Then I remembered these awesome fabric carrots made by Sassy Style and decided I'd better make some for my bunny's to munch on.




I made mine a little different. I couldn't find cone shaped styrofoam at the one store in my town (Wally World). So I made the base of my carrots with cone shaped newspaper. Tape it off and cut the top flat. Then stuff it with more newspaper to stiffen it up and tape the top closed.

Take a fat quarter of fabric and tear it into one inch strips. I love the frayed look. Start wrapping at the bottom and wrap at an angle until you get to the top.

For the top, cut a few short strips and glue them across the top. I used hot glue, my favorite kind.

Take a chunk (technical term) of raffia, fold in half and glue to the top.

These were simple to make and very cheap. I think I spent about 20 min to make both and it cost me a 1/2 of a fat quarter ($.50). The raffia came out of my "craft storage" (I keep a craft storage, just like a food storage, for craft emergencies such as this. I figure, in an emergency, if I couldn't leave my house, I have at least 3 months worth of projects to keep me from going crazy)

Now, as for the twine eggs, I also stole them from Sassy Style. I like to steal other people's great ideas, and change them up a little. Makes me feel creative.

HOT GLUE - Careful, it sticks to fake nails....

I faced the same styrofoam dilemma, so I pulled out some plastic eggs. I'm pretty sure I have 956 at my house. Stuff the egg to make it firm.

Start on one end and begin to wind the twine on the egg. The twine sticks to the glue even when it cools just a bit.

Keep winding, it only takes a few minutes to get the entire egg covered. (see the glue on the nail?)

These also turned out really cute and only took me a few minutes to make. I love the country look of Easter, these fit in perfect.

Car Seat Tent

The first time I heard of the car seat tent was when I received one when my youngest was born. Before then, I was totally deprived and had to use a blanket on top of the baby car seat.

Since I know two babies born in my life in the last month, a nephew and a practically nephew (is that what you call the son of the woman who is "practically" your sister?) I decided I wanted to make a couple of these awesome inventions.

It just so happened that day that on Summo's Sweet Stuff blog, she had posted a great tutorial. So I didn't even have to make it up as I went.

The baby's Mama's have very different personalities, so the tents came out very different. First tent, I'll call "Vintage Baby Boy".

I ABSOLUTELY adore this fabric. I have it in pink too. I made several diaper bags out of it a few years ago. Thinking about making a few more, but no one seems to be having girls!

Pictures don't really do it justice, but I forgot to take any until I delivered the present, oops!~

On my second tent, I was feeling a little braver and added my own special touch. I call him "Baby Monkey". Not very clever, I know. I spent all my creativity making the darn thing.

I cut the monkey out on my cricut. It only took me 10 tries, but I finally found the wonder under that worked the best. ***Tip*** cut it fabric side down, that way the blade doesn't catch on the fabric.

I appliqued my cute baby monkey on the bottom right side on the contrasting fabric.

I love the bows on the tents for the girls, but for the boys, I wasn't so sure. I went with buttons our of my button box.

So I gave away my baby car seat when my little boy grew out of it a few months ago. I of course didn't remember this until I tried to take a picture of my tent. The closest thing I could find....Cooper's 4 wheeler. Same size, same shape, just no handle.

Anyway, I hope they love them as much as I did. I think they are a must for winter babies.

Another Tote

This one is for my cute daughter Alexis. She loves anything pink!

I made this with a placemat I found at the dollar store. I bought the fun fur and ribbon at craft store and only used a small amount. Thinking I'll make her a hairbow with the extra!
